Resident Grocery Survey aims to understand resident grocery preferences

The Regional Fresh Food Council launched a survey this week to determine the impact of recent grocery store closures, where area residents buy their groceries, and how they feel about the available food products at the stores where they shop.  The focus of the survey is on residents of the South Side and East Bluff neighborhoods impacted by grocery store closures in early 2018.

This survey is part of the 2018 Grocery Store Access Study being led by participants in the Regional Fresh Food Council including community members and representatives from University of Illinois Extension, the Greater Peoria Economic Development Council, Peoria County, the City of Peoria, and Senator Dave Koehler.

The full study, which includes a resident survey, grocer survey, and secondary demographic and market data analysis, will provide a bigger picture of the grocery store closure issue.  The RFFC hopes this study will provide informed recommendations for community food entrepreneurs, food access organizations, and city leaders for the development of sustainable grocery stores in the impacted neighborhoods.

The resident survey - intended for residents of the 61603, 61604 and 61605 area codes - can be completed at surveymonkey.com/r/resident-grocery-survey and will be open until September 1, 2018.  Please share with neighbors and friends that live in those neighborhoods!

Paper copies of the survey and survey assistance are also available!  The RFFC is actively communicating and coordinating with neighborhood organizations and community events to make sure as many households as possible have access to the survey and that the survey represents a statistically significant portion of the impacted communities.
